Dutch police may test motorists’ saliva for marijuana, cocaine, and speed

5/25/17–Dutch police may begin testing the saliva of drivers and people involved in violent crimes for drugs when new zero-tolerance rules come into effect on beginning July 1. The saliva test can be used to find out if people have taken opiates, cocaine, THC (the active ingredient in marijuana), and methamphetamines. Although this test identifies whether there are drugs in the system, it cannot say how much or when the drug was taken, which needs to be established to find out if someone has broken road safety laws.
