Louisiana medical marijuana program shows accessibility, pricing issues

1/11/20–After a bill in 2016 regulating growing facilities and allowing for the licensing of doctors and pharmacies that the use of medical marijuana became viable in the state, it took two and a half years before medical marijuana became available to the public in Louisiana. The program still continues to have problems. Health insurance does not cover medical marijuana, and the Louisiana Board of Pharmacy, which licenses and regulates the pharmacies that dispense marijuana products, has received complaints about potential patients’ lack of access to the treatment.
